Ned Hoste Career Highlights

The list below is emphatically a very edited selection of what I have done. Since starting 2h Design I have designed in excess of 100 complete books and 2500 book covers as well as many associated promotional and marketing work. What is below shows you the breadth of the projects in which 2h Design is involved .

2011 Working with Roger Steare on his new identity and book. Designing for Nick Hern Books and BlueRed. Working with John Calvert on his Guide to the British, illustrated by Tim Bulmer.

Working on many projects with the Big Ideas Collective including; Tickton Grange, York St John, We Are Vintage. Also networking with the fast-growing Yorkshire Mafia. 

2010 Major win for the Big Ideas Collective in a competitive pitch on the Design Council and Yorkshire Forward Designing Demand scheme. BIG will be working on the communications and brand awareness of Yellow Brick Farm development at the Beverley Tickton Grange Hotel.

Started working with BlueRed books on International co-edition titles including - presentations for the major international book fairs and complete book design projjects

Speaking engagement at the British Library to the ACCA

BIG ideas co-hosts and sets up an event with York St John's University and Forward Ladies with Roger Steare

 

2009 BIG ideas starts expanding its client list nationwide.

Roger Steare joins the Big Ideas Collective as an associate

Working with Hodder Headline, part of the Hachette group, designing marketing and promotional material including Stephen King. Also designing presentation material for various projects.

 

2008 Designed projects with Roger Steare Consulting, Hodder Headline (Ray Mears), Quantum, Nick Hern Books and many others.

The Big Ideas Collective has gained its first major clients during 2008 all of which have returned for further projects.

Our clients include: Random House Group, Hodder Headline, Out-Take/Rolling Stones, Foyles, IHM Services, Ray Mears/Woodlore, York University, Nick Hern Books, Colman Getty PR, Quantum Books, D&S Books, The Big Issue, Centrepoint, Off the Streets and into Work. International Service, Ryedale Council and Museum of Childhood. 2004 2h has been working as design consultant to IHM Services, art directing and designing material to implement their marketing plans. Key projects including; branding and packaging for Danby’s and SK Foods; promotional material for Best Western Hotels; branding and packaging for The Little Chocolate shop. Logos for Granary Foods, Wedding Box, Stuarts Foods.

2h relocated to York where they now service clients locally, nationally and internationally

2000 Designed Bushcraft by Ray Mears, since then have continued to work with Ray Mears on subsequent books and packaging items for his training company Woodlore and his own equipment brand.

 

1988 Set up 2h Design with Alison Hepburn. 2H has extensive experience in design for print including; book publishing in the UK and international markets, corporate literature, advertising, and the museum, charity and council sectors. An important part of our service is a close relationship with the client, whether it be an individual or a corporate committee. We have found this ensures a clearer interpretation of the brief and a better final solution. We provide a tailor made service which includes art direction, project managing from concept to print.

 

1986 Head hunted by Slatter-Anderson, small design group specialising in design for publishing and general graphic design, to be their studio manager. Key clients included; Century Hutchinson, Hodder and Stoughton, Guinness Book of Records among many. While at Slatter-Anderson designed covers for authors including; Kaffe Fassett, Ruth Rendell, Jeffrey Archer and John le Carré. Also gained experience in studio photography and project management and design. Outside the world of book publishing designed promotional, packaging material, and corporate literature for Bruce Oldfield (press campaigns, Vogue and Elle) Elida Gibbs (packaging) and Antonia Spowers (corporate identity and literature).

 

1986 Illustrated a book of the news with cartoons,
Squirrel Run Down Jogger’s Shorts in Search of Nuts

 

1984 September: employed by Sphere Books as book cover designer, job expanded to cover publicity (P.O.S, trade promotion, press advertising and conference packs) and exhibition design (London International Bookfair, Frankfurt International Bookfair and the Booksellers Annual Conference). While at Sphere designed covers for authors including; Anthony Burgess, Christopher Hope and BBCTV correspondent John Simpson.

1984 Graduated with BA(Hons) 2:1

1981-4 Continued freelance graphic design work while at college

1980 Foundation Course at Hertfordshire College of Art and Design

1976 Designed covers for Challenge (18 issues) magazine, a national monthly puzzle magazine while still at school.
