Ned Hoste first came into my life in 1990 or so, at first as an all-purpose graphic designer. But he proved so easy to work with, so amenable and unfazed by tight deadlines, that when Nick Hern Books became an independent entity we asked him to become our regular cover designer. Which he has been ever since - as well as working on catalogues, fliers and ads for us

Though many of the images he has to work with come to us from  the theatres we work with, he is always adept at subtly embracing them within our ‘house style’, which indeed he has been instrumental in developing. When left to his own devices he frequently comes up with such good ideas one cannot imagine how the book ever existed without Ned’s design on the front.

He is also a very good person to turn to for advice of all sorts, but particularly (obviously) in matters of design and design technology.
